The Exciting Journey of Our Mudroom Transformation
As we embark on our mudroom makeover, the journey is anything but tidy. Tackling a project meant to elevate our space, we're already knee-deep in dust, demo, and a few unexpected surprises!
From Concept to Action: The Initial Steps
This summer, while dreaming about custom built-ins, I approached our contractor with the idea of converting our cluttered coat closet into a functional mudroom wall. To my delight, he found it an easy task: a quick demo here, some electrical work there, and we could transform our living space in no time!
With the schedule aligning perfectly, I had to seize the moment. Having a reliable contractor and carpenter at hand allowed us to turn those dreamy designs into reality faster than I expected.
Preparing for the Chaos: A Family Effort
Life is already busy with school and work, and the thought of managing a renovation felt daunting. Clearing out the coat closet was a family effort, temporarily relocating everything (including our internet setup) to make way for the new design.
As a work-from-home couple, we even had to improvise by working in coffee shops while the internet was down. But teamwork made the challenge manageable and added a sprinkle of fun to our renovation adventure!
Demo Day: A Loud and Dusty Operation
Our contractor's efficient approach kept the mess at bay. The first day brought a flurry of activity: removing walls and hauling debris. We were fortunate to already have extra flooring saved from previous renovations, making our patch job proceed without a hitch.
Opening up our 1921 home revealed its original plaster construction and even unique finds like old newspapers tucked inside the walls—a charming peek into the past. It's little moments like these that breathe life into a simple renovation project, reminding us why we love DIY so much.
